Feedback Isn’t Optional: Developing a Culture of Feedback

This is a 2.5hr Deep Dive Workshop

Sports enthusiasts know the importance of coaching, even at elite levels. The same is true for educators. Developing a culture of feedback is foundational to building an environment where student learning can thrive (Kurter). Even people who are resistant to giving or receiving feedback will join in (and improve) when they work in a feedback-rich environment. And, unfortunately, those who are champions of feedback will give up if the culture does not support feedback efforts (Batista).

Creating a feedback-rich culture requires a belief in the importance of feedback and a strong foundation of trust, healthy communication, and psychological safety. Leaders at all levels of an organization play a vital part in creating a culture of feedback, so this session is applicable to everyone regardless of role. During this session, participants will:

  • Build understanding of why feedback is important for everyone, including top performers
  • Deepen understanding of what makes feedback effective
  • Formulate a plan for creating a culture of feedback in their culture.

Please note that there are two sessions by Dr. Sparrow focused on feedback. These sessions can be taken consecutively or independently.
