Saigon South International School – Elementary School Principal
Melanie Sylvester is currently serving as the Elementary School Principal at Saigon South International School in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She has 26 years experience working with Early Childhood through Grade 7 students as both a classroom teacher and administrator. Melanie received a Bachelor of Elementary Education from the University of Alberta, Canada. She holds two Master’s degrees: one in Interdisciplinary Studies from the State University of New York in Buffalo, and another in International School Leadership from Wilkes University in Pennsylvania. Her career has been enriched by having worked in her home country of Canada, as well as Oman, Jordan, and Vietnam.
Melanie holds certifications in math coaching, educational technology, and in mindful education. She has presented at international conferences on the following topics: empowering students to share their authentic voice, developing makerspaces and 21st century skills, enriching math discussions through oral language, and mindfulness in the classroom. Melanie believes deeply in positive relationships, teamwork, honesty, and community engagement. Her ultimate professional goal is that her students, faculty, and community members feel a sense of belonging, purpose, and pride.
