The Power of Us: Collective Leadership for Student Impact
This is a 2.5hr Deep Dive Workshop
In this practical, hands-on workshop—grounded in Dilts’ Logical Levels—you’ll engage with carefully selected strategies, tools, and resources designed for success at every level. You’ll learn how to diagnose problems, align actions, influence change more effectively by addressing each challenge at the right level of thinking. Recognizing the pivotal role of trust, we will emphasize its essential importance in every facet of collaboration. With trust, clarity, and structure, collaboration between leaders becomes not just inevitable—but contagious.
You’ll learn to identify the root causes of resistance and challenges-from personal to programmatic, and target your approaches more effectively. For example, many leaders attempt to solve problems at the behavioral or environmental level (e.g., “Teachers aren’t implementing the strategy,” or “We need a new schedule”) when the real issues are rooted in beliefs (“This won’t work for my students”), identity (“I’m not the kind of teacher who does that”), or purpose (“Why are we even doing this?”). You’ll discover how to inspire through shared purpose, identity, and values—shifting your leadership from managing tasks and putting out fires to developing people and building systems.
Collective leadership efficacy is driven by alignment at every level, from the school’s physical environment to its core purpose. Through this process, you’ll identify who you are as a leader and co-leader. Together, we’ll reflect on the extent to which your identities, values, and beliefs are consistently reflected in your actions. By clarifying your own purpose—or your team’s—you’ll know the capabilities needed to achieve it. When we take the time to align these levels, we foster coherence, buy-in, and trust.
Drawing on W. Edwards Deming’s insight—”A bad system will beat a good person every time”—we’ll conclude by learning how to structure environments and systems for optimal success. Together, we’ll explore the Models of Co-Leading—an innovative approach that applies the familiar co-teaching cycle to leadership. You’ll leave with a coherent co-leadership model, practical tools, and a renewed sense of purpose—inspired and equipped to co-lead for lasting impact on student learning.
